THE SONS (AND DAUGHTER) OF LIBERTY
(The Sons Of The Sons Of Truth)
A record of the events from ...199...
[Writing Smudged - looks like "June 1998"]
28th of June -
My father drops me off at Dicky's house. My father and Dicky's father have a heated argument about "John" being wrong about something.
My father had previously argued with my mother about going to see a "John".
My father's name is John.
30th of June (or close to) -
Whilst building a tree house at the bottom of the garden with my father, my father forbids me from sending time with Dicky.
My father also forbids me, around the same time, from spending time with Mark.
July 4th -
My father insists that we celebrate Independence Day (bloody weird) and invites Dicky's parents and a woman named Annie over for a BBQ. Annie's daughter (Sexy) Emily also attends.
My father forbids me from attending the BBQ.
July 5th -
Whilst staying over Harrison's after the BBQ, I overhear Harrison's mother and father talking about John. They say his idea won't work.
July 8th -
My father goes away and doesn't come back for over a.... [Smudged]
July 19th -
The three of us spend the night in the tree house in Mark's garden. In the night, we hear screaming from inside the house but none of us dare to investigate.
For the record, I wanted to see what was going on.
July 20th -
Mark's mother is discovered with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
August 5th -
Mark's mother's funeral.
August 8th -
My father returns. I'm angry with him for missing Mum's funeral. I go to stay with Harrison.
My parents, even though they told me not to spend time with Mark, allow him to stay.
August 9th -
During a sleepover at Harrison's house, I wake in the night to find Mark missing. I assume he's gone back to his father's.
I wake up in Harrison's room and have no recollection of having left in the night.
My father and mother are awfully quiet in the morning.
My father comes to pick me up at around noon - he has a heated argument with Harrison's father but none of us heard what was said.
August 10th -
My father comes to Harrison's house in the evening. They have a long discussion in the living room.
After Mark's father leaves - without talking to Mark - my father calls Dicky's father on the phone and uses the words "Sons of Truth".
August 11th -
Our parents seem to have made up. Mark's father comes over and my father and he have a long discussion. After he leaves, my father apologises for our parents trying to keep us from being friends. He hints that something happened just before Harrison was born that caused our parents to argue. He says it's all in the past now.
September 3rd -
We spend the night in the tree house for the first time since Mark's mother's death.
I wake up in the night to find both Harrison and Mark missing.
I have no recollection of leaving the tree house.
Neither do I.
September 21st -
Back at school. Emily has been introduced to our class. Harrison has a crush on her (I do not) (it's alright, we all do). I invite her to see our tree house.
Mark's father does not come out to see us all but when Dicky and Emily leave, he tells Mark and I that it's vitally important that we don't hang around with "that Emily girl" as she's "trouble with a capital T".
September 23rd -
I wake up in the middle of the night in a field outside of town. I walk to Harrison's house, as it's the closest, and try to wake him by throwing stones at his window. Harrison's father comes down and asks me what I was doing. He offers me a glass of milk. Next thing I remember, I wake up back at home.
My father doesn't mention this.
My father does! I hear him talking about it to someone on the phone.
September 26th -
My father wakes me up in the middle of the night and tells me to hide. I hear voices downstairs - which might be Dicky's father and/or Mark's father. Later, my father comes upstairs and tells me to go back to bed.
After discussing this at school, the three of decide to make a note of all the strange things our parents say or do.
And that's the end of that chapter.
[Several pages have been removed from the notebook]
January 3rd -
Dicky and Harrison had a fight today. It got pretty heated. Harrison beat him up pretty badly.
January 4th -
Dicky came around today. He shows no signs of being beat up yesterday. Emily says that Harrison knocked two of this teeth out but he doesn't even have [writing smudged].
Harrison told me this afternoon that he no longer wishes to continue coming around here to compare notes about our parents.
Dicky also says that he no longer wants to participate. He says he wants to stay friends with me but that he no longer wants any contact with Harrison or Emily.
Harrison also wants no contact with Dicky.
April 18th -
Harrison has not been to school for the past two weeks. Emily says she'll go round his house tonight and see if she can get him to tell her why.
April 19th -
Harrison has moved away. His neighbours tell me his father got a job up north. Why didn't he tell any of us?
June 18th -
As crazy as this is going to sound, I saw Dicky jump from the roof of the church today. He got back straight back up without so much as a scratch on him.
June 22nd -
I can't believe you two losers are still keeping this thing going. Get a life.
June 24th -
How did Dicky find this book, I thought you said only you and I knew the hiding place, Em?
June 28th -
I don't know.
June 30th -
Some hiding place!
July 4th -
If you want to know the truth, be in the tree house at 10pm on the 9th of August.
August 9th -
Mark and I spent the night in the tree house. Harrison's father arrived at Mark's house just after 11. Dicky's father arrived just after 12. The three of them then left, together, in Mark's father's car.
August 11th -
Dicky's father's car and Harrison's father's car have been parked in our driveway since the 9th. I haven't seen my father.
September 4th -
I woke up in the middle of the night to find my mother crying at the kitchen table. She was drunk and kept repeating, "I can't believe he's gone". I asked her who she was.... [Writing smudged] ....kept repeating that same phrase over and over.
September 8th -
I woke up in the middle of that field again this morning. That's the first time that that has happened since December.
I also woke up in a strange place this morning, my back garden. I don't know how I got there.
September [Writing smudged - could be "10th"] -
My girlfriend has asked me to move with her Sheffield. I think I'm going to do it, it'll be nice to get out of here.
September 24th -
I'm the only one left now. Mark moved to Sheffield yesterday, Harrison is completely unreachable and, now that school is over, I don't see much of Dicky at all.
I will continue to write anything that seems important in this book.
[Blank Pages]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I only remember bits and pieces of the information recorded above. Emily remembers more than I do.
William and I are currently working on a timeline of events which we will be posting here as soon as it's finished. William seems to think that it's important that we record our story here in case anything happens to us.
Emily and I are not allowed to leave the house (Gloria's orders) but William spends a lot of his time sitting at the bottom of the garden, just in front of the "protective symbols". He seems to think the Nightmare People will make contact with us and that he'll be able to strike a deal - Frankie's release for our safety.
Something tells me it's not going to be that easy.
